The new Mendip Hills AONB Volunteer Group contributed to celebrating the ‘European Day of Parks’ that takes place each year on 24th May. The 2011 statistics on biodiversity indicators have been published today. Eighteen indicators (comprising 34 measures) have been reported annually since 2007 to provide an overview of biodiversity trends in the UK, and are updated (data are up to 2009 and 2010 in most cases). The Mendip Hills AONB Unit is recruiting 15 young people between the ages of 11 to 14 to join its new two-year Young Ranger programme starting this September.
The scheme provides a fantastic opportunity to find out about protected landscapes through a variety of activities that take them out and about in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
