TAP WATER AWARDS - Grants up to £3,000 to enable schools, universities and colleges across the UK provide access to mains drinking water on campus while reducing the use of plastic bottled waters (applications may be made at any time).


Not-for-profit provides Tap Water Awards to achieve a reduction in the amount of plastic bottles and containers sent to landfill.  It achieves its aims by helping educational establishments such as schools, colleges and universities to reduce their dependency on bottled water by installing mains fed water machines and providing reusable stainless steel bottles.


Grants of between £300 and £3,000 are available to fund all or part of project costs. Match funding is welcomed but not essential.


In the application assessment process, the following criteria will be considered:


  • The need for the project
  • Who will benefit
  • How the applicant will achieve the outcome
  • Whether have funded the applicant before
  • The school's income
  • The total project cost


Examples of eligible project costs include:


  • Mains fed water machines;
  • Plumbing work to install machines;
  • Electrical work to install machines;
  • Buying of other items associated with mains fed machines
  • Any other items associated with mains drinking water in schools


PLEASE NOTE: activities or services that schools have a statutory responsibility to provide cannot be covered by the Tap Water grants scheme.

Applicants are advised to complete and submit their application at least 3 months before their project is due to start.
